Mannequin Records presents a 2xLP compilation of the klangFarBe cassette tape label, originally recorded during the 1980s. The label was established to make home recording underground music accessible for a small group of interested parties. Eventually eight releases were published all in all. The label become acquainted soon, especially with the help of Lutz Schramm, the host of the famous "Parocktikum" radio program on East German DT-64 station. With the fall of the wall and the opportunities to publish his music finally in a more professional way, Bretschneider closed down klangFarBe in 1989 with releasing the final cassette: Trickbeat by AG GEIGE.
In addition to the live performances, the audio-visual installation »white circle« an acoustic, architectonic space, designed as an audio-visual installation, will also be celebrating its world premiere on the occasion of the anniversary of the label at the ZKM_Cube. Between 14-27 July, EMS based in Stockholm, Sweden hosted Frank Bretschneider as a resident artist, who was eager to submerge into the legendary Buchla and Serge modular synthesizers. On this occasion, we've talked to the co-founder of Raster-Noton to find out more about what is so special about these machines, his current plans to shift from digital towards analog directions, why computer sounds made such a big impression on him when he was younger, and strolling down memory lane he also shares his experiences with mono turning to stereo, raising the question what else is out there which could make such an enormous difference within the limits of perceptible sound.
Visiting Stockholm for a 14 days residency at the EMS Elektronmusikstudion – the centre for Swedish electroacoustic music and sound-art – to work on a new project using the Buchla 200 and Serge modular synthesizers.
